One of the natural world’s most famous and sensational phenomena, this is the Aurora Borealis. This stunning display is visible from the northernmost parts of the world: the Arctic, the Nordic countries, Canada, sometimes even from northern parts of Scotland and the US. It is caused by solar wind and magnetic rays making contact with Earth’s upper atmosphere.
A lesser-known fact is that there are also Southern Lights! These are also known as the Aurora Australis, and they are visible from parts of Tasmania, New Zealand and Antarctica.
