This one is a little different to most of the other pictures on this list. We’ve mostly been looking at natural phenomena that cause optical illusions – that is, things that look real, but are not really there. But this beautiful image is an example of how a perfectly natural everyday phenomenon can allow us to see things that were always there but were usually invisible.
Tiny raindrops are clinging to every strand of this spider’s web, making it much easier to see than usual. We bet that the spider was furious.
