Pet-Friendly Vacation Tips And Destinations

Are you ready for an adventure? There’s so much to see and do, but what to do about Fido? If he’s coming with you, then you’ll need to prepare a few things. What hotels and restaurants allow pets? What supplies will they need for the journey? Can they make the journey in their condition? Once you have that all figured out, you can be on your way to the airport or hopping in your van to cruise the highways. Let’s explore some tips that will help you along the way.

1.  Provide Them With A Suitcase

Before taking off on your wild journey, consider what your pet will need during the excursion. Portable bowls are a must, as they’ll need food and water even when you’re on the road. Their medication still has to be taken even during a road trip. Do they need sedatives to calm them during the flight? A carrier might be required if you’re flying, too.

2.  Invest In Identification Tags

You never know when that crafty pet is going to try to escape. Animals get thrilled and frightened easily, so having identification tags on their collar will help them return to you safely. Microchips are even better, as they offer all of the pet’s information to the one who scans it.

3. Remember To Feed And Water Your Pet

Animals are prone to car sickness, so always stop to feed and water them. This should be done regularly, even more so than usual due to exhilaration boiling their energy away. Plus, this gives them a chance to stretch, which is something you both should do often during the trip.

4.  Eat Your Meals Outside

It’s much easier to eat at restaurants when there’s a patio available for animals to join. Always remember to check that you can bring them with you, as the waiters won’t be happy about the furry intrusion otherwise. The outdoors will provide space and fresh air, so other diners won’t feel the need to comment on your dining partner.

5.  Watch The Temperature

We can’t stress enough that you should never leave your pet in a locked car during extreme weather. If it’s higher than seventy degrees or lower than thirty five degrees it could mean illness and even death. You may be running in for “only a couple of minutes,” but things happen. You can forget, get held up in line, or even arrested for shoplifting (Was it a false accusation? We hope so).
